M-sand production from overburden sandstone to get a boost
Overburdened sandstone removed as waste to extract lignite has been found to be a good fit for production of Manufactured sand (M-Sand).
An extensive study was conducted by NLCIL and IIT Madras and it found that the waste overburden was suitable for conversion.
NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), a Central Public Sector Enterprise, is likely to commence production of M-sand from overburden sandstone, the topsoil over lignite deposits, and use it for construction.
