Hi Manoj,

A common reason for flaking could be the wearing off of the sealant. From your query it appears that the granite is in urgent requirement of assessment and re-application of sealant.

Broadly, granite is a porous material and requires sealing. This prevents staining and damage.

When the sealant wears off, either due to excessive use of chemical disinfectants, cleaning agents, breakage of other items on the surface etc, the granite becomes vulnerable to damage. Stains also begin forming in such cases and can accelerate the possibility of flaking.

At such a time, it is important to assess the condition of the sealant and consider reapplying it. You should also regularly clean the granite to remove stains and other substances that may weaken the surface. Ideally, use natural cleaning agents or simple wet cloth wipes.

Thanks for your query and hope this helps.
