Kishangarh champions business & sustainability through natural stones

The first simple gang-saw machine was set up in Kishangarh in 1986. Today, there are said to be over 9,000 traders, manufacturers, and exporters of natural stones in region.

Known as the Marble City of Rajasthan, Kishangarh has not just been booming with natural stone businesses, but it’s built a novel attraction with what many also call the ‘moon land of Rajasthan’ or the ‘snowy escape in the desert state’.

Imagine, there are said to be over 9,000 traders, manufacturers, and exporters of natural stones in Kishangarh. While traditionally there was a big focus on marble, businesses have since transitioned and grown to include all kinds of stones, with a particular focus on granite.

As business has boomed, a byproduct of the growing processing has been generation of slurry that was being dumped in a demarcated area. Turning waste-into-wealth, the Kishangarh Marble Association has transformed the dumping yard into snowy white landscape that’s a big hit for photo and video shoots for its snowy appearance. The association has also built modern facilities to aid creators and now charges for the dumping yard to be used professional.

The first simple gang-saw machine was set up in the industrial area in 1986, Kishangarh Marble Association President Mr Sudhir Jain informs. The first modern machine was installed in the year 1989. And the association itself was formed in 1991.

Loads of marble processing units in the city work non-stop to churn out high-quality stones to meet global and domestic demand.

With 1,200 marble cutting units and over 30,000 workers, this industry now operates at a massive scale.

This growth in stone processing led to the creation of Asia's biggest marble industry dumping yard. That yard has now become a hot spot.

With the white slurry accumulating over 332 bighas of land, the area has turned into a picturesque landscape thronged by photographers for photo shoots, music video shoots and even pre-wedding photography.

This story of Kishangarh transforming waste-to-wealth personifies the will of the region and its people to find creative ways to grow, aesthetically.
